Before 2008

Atos, through the SchlumbergerSema's acquisition, was involved in previous Games during the 1990s, starting with the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, where we were the COOB Official supplier of Operational Systems.

We designed and implemented the following systems and services:

  Accreditation Accommodation Transport

Arrival & Departure Medical Services Media Booking

  Ticketing Volunteers (Equip'92) Calendar

Data Processing Center Setup and Management Technical Support

In the summer of 1996, we became the ACOG supplier for the Atlanta Olympic Games, where we provided general consultancy in Operational Management Systems for ticketing and accommodation, and also the system design for accreditation, staffing, medical services and arrival & departure applications.

Two years later, Atos was involved with the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan. For NAGANO 1998, we subcontracted with IBM, once again providing accreditation systems and system operation services.

In September 2000, an Atos technical team found itself in Australia deploying some of the critical Games Management software applications for the SYDNEY 2000 Olympic Games.

In 2002, Atos deployed its team in North America for the IT management of the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games. Throughout the 17 days of events and ceremonies, our IT systems and technology team delivered a gold medal performance.

For Salt Lake, we used knowledge transfer from previous Games to build a stable, secure IT platform, and we developed processes and applications that serve as the building blocks of future information technology, reports, archives and shared sports data for the next Olympic Games.

In 2004, Atos, as Worldwide Information Technology (IT) Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced the successful completion of its IT operations for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games.

During the 16 days of competition, more than five million security alerts to the Games IT systems were recorded, of which just 425 were serious and 20 critical. Intrusions included accredited people attempting to disconnect INFO 2004, the Olympic Games intranet that provides results, schedule and athlete information, in order to connect personal laptops to access the Internet. The IT team was able to respond fast to all the critical alerts and prevent unauthorized access.

As the lead systems integrator for the Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games, Atos managed a consortium of technology partners and suppliers to install and manage the Olympic IT infrastructure and systems. We operated the Main Technology Center, the Integration Test Lab, the PC Factory, and several data centers used for primary storage and back-up disaster recovery. We also handled the data and information security protecting the entire IT infrastructure of the Games.

The 2006 Winter Olympic Games took place in seven venues in and around Torino, Italy. Over 2,500 athletes competed in 15 disciplines including skiing, ice hockey and snowboarding. Once the Olympic Games began, the Atos-led IT team worked 24/7 to monitor the IT systems and infrastructure across all the Olympic venues. It ensured that all results and athlete information was transmitted accurately and instantly to 10,000 media representatives, as well as the official Torino 2006 website and news and press agencies.

Our IT Partnership with the Olympic Games is a remarkable showcase for our capabilities. Atos can successfully support complex, diverse IT needs – including risk and knowledge management, IT security, partner and program management, and intense, real-time operations – anywhere in the world, at any scale or magnitude. Atos maximizes business performance to create truly sustainable competitive advantages.
